Sell to Us
We Buy Collections
With over 60 years of buying experience we provide on the spot appraisals of stamps, coins, banknotes, medals, post cards, AFL cards and some other collectables.
Our business has won many awards and our opinion is highly sought. Tony Shields was an expert on Radio 3AW Antique and Collectables show for over 25 years. As members of numerous industry associations we promise you the team at Shields will look after you with integrity, knowledge and friendliness.
We usually make an offer on worthwhile lots. Our expert buyers are normally available between 11am - 4pm Wednesday - Friday. If you have a large collection eg a car boot load you need to drop it off between 9am-11am Tuesday to Saturday and leave it with us.
We do written valuations for insurance and probate. There is a minimum charge of $250 per hour, including our traveling time. If the collection is sold to us, the valuation fee is refunded. Please contact us today to arrange a time.
If you require more advice please call us on (03) 9459 5953.
Can I bring everything together?
We have made thousands of purchase over the years. We buy boxes, suitcases and car loads regularly. No lot is too big. We encourage you to bring everything you have in one go. No appointment is required unless you have a larger lot ie a car load or boot load. Ring first to make sure.
How long will it take?
Most collections don’t take more than a few minutes. If it will take longer you’re welcome to leave it with us and go for a coffee in Burgundy Street. We don’t want to waste your time or ours, so we are efficient and realistic with our offers.
Should I clean the items first?
NO!! Never clean anything without an expert looking at it first. If for example you cleaned a coin you could instantly reduce its value. Likewise if you have old stamps on envelopes or postcards, DO NOT TEAR THEM OFF. Sometimes they are worth much more on envelopes, so let us check them first!
What do I need to provide to sell to you?
As a registered second hand dealer we are required to fill in our purchases book. In order to purchase something we require photo id from the seller including a street address.
